Bigfoot Shooting

It seems the whole premise behind Bigfoot is all about marketing. The fact that this "creature" is used now as a business model to make money makes the events in the shooting even more absurd. The fact that someone was allegedly so curious but obviously fearful about the creature that they had to bring out guns in a group of people just makes little myths like this extremely dangerous. Maybe there is a Bigfoot, there isn't any proof however to back up this claim. It is for that reason the curiosity of many has peaked because the idea of Bigfoot is so old and still unproven. If a person were to find the real creature there would be a lot of fame and money to follow them. I just don't see the point of heading out late at night looking for a creature that may or may not exist- they ended up running into more trouble than was necessary and now all participants may end up with jail time over an unknown creature. I'm unsure if that's embarrassing or just depressing.

  1. I didn't think of the event that occurred in that approach Tyler. It is very interesting to think of it in that way. Connor blogged about the Jack Links commercials, which is making money off of Bigfoot, but a nice and friendly Bigfoot. People are making money of such an absurd and mythical creature and it really frustrates me to know people are only increasing the interest in Bigfoot by making money through advertisements, movies, commercials, and writings. The increase in interest of Bigfoot, in this case seriously caused a human being much pain and almost death. An event like this one, is an event that could have been easily avoided. It is a shame that it had to end in this way rather than finding nothing and heading home late at night with no story to tell. The legend of Bigfoot will live forever and maybe its just something I will have to deal with.

  2. Is the Jack Links bigfoot really friendly? He usually attacks people, albeit after they are caught "messin' with Sasquatch." But I think you are both right that in most cases what we are really dealing with is a phenomenon of building hype for marketing purposes, something that the commercials playfully exploit. It is telling but perhaps not unexpected that the capacity for belief seems to lead usually to one of two things: a genuine desire to connect with a higher power, and the cynical desire to exploit that belief for financial gain. In this episode, I think we are either dealing with people who are using the myth as an excuse, or perhaps who have bought into it a bit too uncritically.

  3. I am a bit of a thrill seeker. I want to go skydiving, and I want to be the first person in a wheelchair to run, or wheel in my case, with the bulls. However, I do not think that I would ever go hunting at night, with a gun in order to track down down Bigfoot. I do agree with you that it does seem kind of absurd. They need to pick up a hobby.

  4. I think this is a rare instance where something went wrong for these 3 men. It is unfortunate that it ended in the way it did but I do not see the issue in having stories such as BigFoot, or abdominal snowman. They are entertainment for viewers and are harmless for the most part. This is a rare example.
